Your Blog Comments are Not Worth the Link

Want to know a little secret? Posting comments on blogs with your link in it will not help your search engine ranking.
“No-follow” has been around since 2005 and almost every blog has no-follow for comments links. WordPress has it as an installation default and most other blog platforms do as well.
SearchEngineWatch.com explained this quite clearly last week and I realized that most people do not know this. I did not understand this at first either; it is understandable.
However, I think it is worth spreading the word about. I continue to get irrelevant comments relating to my posts; people or bots just trying to get links. As the post explains, the only value in comment links come from useful comments that may be actually clicked on, so what is the point of these spammy comments?
If you are just looking for a quick link, I am just going to assign your comment as “spam“. However, if you post useful comments, I promise to check out your site myself. Who knows, if it is valuable, maybe I will write about it as well and give it the link and respect it deserves.
A link saved is a link earned.

If you’ve been in SEO or domaining for 5 days you should already know this. The reason I comment on the blogs is to provide feedback. I know I appreciate someone letting me know they liked my articles and therefore do the same for others. I could care less what my blog is ranked but I won’t lie, writing for 10 people is no fun and I get excited when someone post a comment. It’s not hard to figure out which people are there to promote intelligent conversation or draw attention to themselves.
I have found relevant comments, even short ones, can drive traffic to kartme.com. What’s intrigued me is that on certain forums, they can drive traffic for years after the original comment!
If only the people still purchasing scammy software to flood blogs with links to their crap would realize this!
Whenever I receive a legitimate comment I do always tend to visit the posters website. You can usually garner great insights into the type of person reading your website doing that.
And maybe I’m just being polite, but if someone drops a comment on me, I’ll leave one with them if possible. More of a way to establish raport/community, than to boost comments/linkspam.
Agree. I almost always visit the posters website from good comments.
