Not sure if any of you saw the movie The Cove, but it won best documentary at the Oscars. The movie depicts a team of activists calling out Japan for killing dolphin’s for meat and entertainment.
Interestingly enough, The Cove has become a major issue right here in Santa Monica. The filmmakers have called out the local sushi restaurant, “The Hump”, for apparently serving whale meat.
The Hump is one of my favorite sushi restaurants. I believe they serve the best fish in LA (maybe not the best rolls, but definitely the freshest fish). It is based right at the Santa Monica Airport and you sit and watch the planes take off and land as you dine on delicious sushi.
Apparently The Hump has suspended operations while they figure out what to do next. There was a huge protest of over 100 people there a couple of days ago with “Free Willy” signs and what not.
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. The Hump has not made any statement so far, so I am not sure what stance they are taking. Personally, I would be fine if they just admit it, pay a fine, and re-open. As long as they do not do it again, I am alright with it. The sushi there is just too good for Santa Monica to lose.

Well, it is going to close down.
Here is the link (thanks Shaun!) to the updated story where The Hump owners said on their website that they will close forever as a self-imposed punishment.
