Sci-Fi Perfect Storm

So, a bit off topic, but I would like to point out the perfect storm of May. Three ultimate sci-fi prequels.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine - I have already seen it, so more of a review than a preview. Either way, it completes what we crave in sci-fi prequels – explanation for how the insane scientific or plot situation that occurred in the original. We do not get the scientific explanation for mutation in Creations, but I think that is fairly understood. However, we do the get the scientific-plot explanation for Wolverine’s adamanthium claws. That is something any comic book taught 30-40 year old has wondered about for decades.
Terminator Salvation - Terminator movies have always relied upon time travel around an event that changed the world. The characters in the movies either come from before or after that giant war between man and machines. Well, this is the story to that event. My only concern is Christian Bale’s insistence to do this movie all in one room, without having to travel, as mentioned in this month’s Fast Company interview with McG. I will be very disappointed if the scenes look TOO fake.
Star Trek- No television series defines science fiction more than Star Trek. The show itself spawned more spin-offs (Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, etc.) than can be calculated by Data. Personally, I was always a greater fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but that is primarily due to my age more than anything else. This movie has the potential to bring Star Trek interest to an entire generation of kids born after 1990. It will surely garner viewers of age 40 and older, but whether it can gain traction with the young’n’s is how it prove its true value.
The only thing better than this perfect storm would be to throw in a Matrix prequel, although that would be a stretch to hold them up to this level of sci-fi lore. Star Wars has been done and most other top sci-fi movies (shows) never expanded into valuable series or trilogies.
I for one am looking forward to hitting the theatres in the next month. Just, please don’t cough on me in the enclosed area if you have swine flu.
