The Panama Investor Blog put together a solid analysis of the positives and negative of both Panama and Costa Rica a few weeks back.
His main points are:
- Costa Rica is greener
- Panama is more developed
- Prices in Costa Rica are not in line with the quality of living
In the end, he chooses Panama over Costa Rica for the ease of living. While he says you must sacrifice the comforts of the real world to gain the eco edge the Costa Rica, I think you can actually have most of both in Bocas Del Toro.
My response comment to him:
“Great article.
All the more reason that I like Bocas Del Toro. It seems to still share much of the jungle atmosphere that Costa Rica boasts, while keeping the legal infrastructure of Panama. You do lose out on the shopping centers and four lane highways by being in Bocas. But if you are looking for something of a compromise between the two countries, Bocas works well.”

Depends what you mean by ” quality of living”.
I’m sitting on my front porch typing this and there are 7-8 howlers and 10-12 toucans within 50 yards of me………
I’m wearing a flannel shirt.
The women here are FAR prettier.
If I were going to live the Caribbean-USA life I’d take Puerto Rico over Panama or Costa Rica.
Gotta go. The volcano is erupting again.
