Google Maps Triangulation

googlemaps logo

A co-worker just pointed this out to me this morning and I suggest everyone with a blackberry try it out.  The new version of Google Maps for Blackberry uses cell tower triangulation to determine your location and show you on the map.  You are then able to “Get Directions” from “My Location”.  Very similar to the GPS functionality.  I have not heard if this works internationally or not, but would appreciate if some of you could let us know.

The best part about this is that I just ordered a new Blackberry Curve.  The difference between the 8800 and the Curve I’m told is GPS (8800) versus Camera (Curve).  I was told I could get an add-on for the Curve to act as a GPS locator.  I decided to go with the Camera, and thus Curve, but held off on the add-on GPS.  I figured I would buy it later after testing out the phone a bit.  Now, with this triangulation software, I do not really need to get the GPS.

One Week Of Food Costs

I got this email as a forward this morning.  I rarely forward the typical “FW:” emails, let alone post to the blog, but I think this one is really interesting and well organized.  It reminds me of those requests for a quarter to feed a child in Africa for a day.   According to the last picture, that is fairly accurate.  What I like about this picture most is that everyone is smiling with their families.  Makes me realize that price and material possessions are nothing compared to being with family.

Quote of the Day

“The Fed has up and changed the rules again!  I’ll tell ya, between the coordinated agendas, discount window collateral changes, invisible hands, superfund conduits, sub-prime bailout plans and now, the biggest act of international economic cooperation since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, you can’t help but wonder what the heck it sees that the markets, 5% off their highs, have yet to price in?” – market blog

Domain Employees

domains

Always make sure you have non-disclosure agreements signed when hiring employees that will be buying, selling, or otherwise managing your domains.  This article from the P.I. points out the first I’ve heard of an employee basically doing the opposite of stealing domains or domain info.  This Microsoft employee, actually did the opposite of her job by not buying domains.  She faked expense reports saying she bought domains when she was actually buying something else.

By breaking the law, I think it is obvious she is not too bright, but what I find funny is that of all the opportunities in the world, to buy domains for Microsoft, she actually did the opposite.  Not to push criminal tendencies, but one would think that with her job she could realize the value of domains and actually would be trying to buy more domains for less, rather than less domains for more.
