I was granted access to the Beta version of the new site Hulu.com. I wanted to post a quick review before spending more time with it over the next few weeks.
Domain: Of course I’ll start with the domain. They have a quality four-letter dot-com domain (LLLL.com) that is easy to remember and spell. However, it does not really describe what they are doing. Hopefully they can make a brand name for themselves and do not end up as a baby-sounding name lost amongst all of the others.
Content: The content they have is truly amazing. They have full episodes of many of the premier TV shows right now (for instance The Office or the Simpsons). I’m not sure what progress they are making for getting more, but The Office alone is good enough for me.
Technology: The site looks absolutely amazing. I haven’t run into any bugs yet and the quality of the video is excellent. The functionality is fairly simple and seems to use a combination of Flash and Web 2.0 at its best.
Edge: With this site, you have the ability to cut out clips of shows you enjoy and post to your sites. For example:
Overall: This is a great new site. I will definitely use it to post clips of my favorite quotes from The Office onto this blog from time to time. I do not know how long it will take for them to get out of Beta and to the mass public, but so far I am sold.
