NCAA Bracket Bragging

It happens one out of every 10 years or so that I actually win a NCAA pool. This happens to be one of those years, so I am going to enjoy the moment as much as possible. Sorry, but you get to listen to my bragging for the next 60 seconds.

Going into the final weekend I have all but locked up several of my pools. A few years ago I changed my strategy to use the same bracket in every pool. I figured if I did well, I’d prefer to win them all at once. If you enter 10 different pools per year with 10 slightly different brackets, and win maybe 1 pool every other year, it just does not have the same adrenaline rush as winning them all at the same time.

So, with my single bracket, I have already currently won our family pool, am in first place with only one opponent (Duke would have to win out for me to lose) in the office pool, and leading the way in several others. However, possibly the coolest achievement is a current 7th place standing worldwide among all Bloomberg brackets (BRKT on Bloomberg). With a West Virginia win against Duke I think I could actually move into 2nd place.

Fortunately for a few others, I posted my picks as our Basketball.org picks just two weeks back. I have some friends who used that exact bracket in their pools and are winning theirs as well.

These picks were actually crushed by the Midwest region, which I had Kansas coming out of after beating Georgetown, neither of which happened. However, my performance in the other three regions was incredible, losing only 2 out of 15 games in the East regional and 3 out of 15 in the South and West regionals.

If West Virginia wins against Duke and then loses in the Finals (preferably to a lesser chosen Butler), I could start topping even more nationwide brackets. Go Mountaineers!
