Mobile Business Upgrade

You may have heard of Kogi BBQ.  They are a mobile Korean BBQ truck that has “driven” business by using Twitter to communicate with their followers.

They travel all over LA, tweeting their location or intended location.  The have 27,000 followers watching them on Twitter.  Obviously they are not all in LA, but that is still a huge client base just waiting for them to come to their neighborhood.

While this has been a major improvement in communications with a mobile business, I am not entirely satisfied.  I watch them tweet all day long, hoping they will come near Santa Monica.  Sometimes they refer to parts of LA I have never even heard of.  Sometimes they are actually fairly close by, but I just do not know the cross streets well enough.

Either way, I end up back on Google Maps, trying to find their location.  So, why not tap into that map?  Kogi BBQ could become a friend of mine on Google Latitude and I could see where they are all day long.  They can update their status on there so I would know where they are going, or I could still follow their status on Twitter.  Either way, it would make them a lot easier to find.

Is your business mobile?  Even slightly mobile?  Does your business or do your employees ever have to travel to their clients?  I truly believe this is one of the big next steps of mobile communication, it just has yet to explode.  Businesses like Kogi BBQ will be the ones to drive this technology going forward.

Our businesses are not very mobile, but we have still set up Latitude accounts for them so our customers can find them.  If you are interested in finding our business, add contact [at] lahaina.com or neptuneventuresllc [at] gmail.com to your Google Latitude contacts and we can help drive this technology.

If you just want to follow me around, add conorneu [at] gmail.com to your Latitude contacts.  [Sidenote: If I don't know you well enough, I may only share my city-level location. If I think you are going to break into my house when I am out of town, I might have to hide from you completely.  Fortunately, for all of you worried about the same issue, Google makes this easy to do.]  Heck, you might as well drop your Latitude contact email into the comment section and get the GreenTaxi Tribe to pioneer tribal communication.
