For anyone watching the Presidential Debate last night, at some point you must have thought, who is Joe the Plumber? Then you went online and searched for “Joe the Plumber” on Google to find over 2,000 news articles already dedicated to Joe the Plumber. Even today, the day after the debate, Google Hot Trends show almost 20% of the top 50 searches are in reference to Joe Wurzelbacher, aka Joe the Plumber.

Well, as Shaun from Tokyo points out, let’s not forget that many people search via direct navigation as well. Apparently, JoeThePlumber.com is owned by a Joe Francis, in Amarillo, Texas (complete with the requisite plumbers crack logo). It looks like he must have a fairly solid server, because at this time his site is still loading quickly and running strong. JoeThePlumber.com has a mailing list (yes, I joined it) for breaking news about his plumber business.
I doubt Joe knew of the impact the debate last night had on his business until he got into the office today to see his web site getting thousands of hits and probably a large increase in phone calls or emails. It does seem that the actual Joe that McCain was referring to has been located, so perhaps Amarillo Joe will see this hype tail off quickly. Either way, I hope he is able to catch some business off of the positive surprise…especially if he looks like his logo!
