Lahaina Improvements
I put together another quick video from my Lahaina trip today. This one is much less exciting than the rest, but is great for the Lahaina long tail terms regarding parking in Lahaina. I created a “How To” video showing the use of parking machines in the Lahaina parking lots and added that video, along with a Lahaina parking lot map, to a solid article.
Lahaina.com Growth
Our Lahaina content is growing quickly and the site development is rapidly concluding. It is exciting to see. While it means our workload is about to double, we could not be happier about the late nights ahead.
In the News
Even better, we have garnered attention in the geodomain and domain development communities. First, Associated Cities Executive Director Patrick Carleton mentioned our site in a Geodomain interview. He referred to the Lahaina.com name for what we have been able to do over a short period of time. While I disagree, the recognition is important within that community. We have not done much with the current site, but have instead spent time developing a site and relationships behind the current html. Hopefully he will be just as impressed once the new site is launched.
Then, Richard, over at TooManySecrets.com, wrote an in-depth analysis today on how to improve our site. We have followed TooManySecrets closely through its short blogging history. The articles are incredibly insightful from a technical standpoint and it is an honor to receive advice from him. Fortunately, we are already in the process of fixing many of his suggestions, such as creating more content for many specific keywords and improving the site structure for categories and articles. However, he had several good ideas that we have not yet discussed. He suggests to differentiate the 404 pages from the home page and to use keyword rich titles and H1 headings such as “Lahaina Golf Courses” rather than just “Golf”. It is amazing how such simple advice can improve the sites SEO (Search Engine Optimization). We will implement those changes shortly.
My Visit
In all, Lahaina.com is making solid progress. After my visit there, I am even more encouraged. I was impressed by the amount of businesses in the area and the continued development of the tourist industry. I also enjoyed the area immensely. While the natural beauty and atmosphere has not changed, I forgot how great it can be due to such a long break between visits.
