I’m Not Selling Domains

I’ve written over the past two weeks how I think the Internet is changing, how the value of domains have peaked, and how the browser may be hitting its limits.  I want to follow these all up with a clear notice.

I still think the Internet is growing.  I think we are at a point where it is expanding quickly in different directions.  I also do no think the browser or domains are going anywhere for a long long time.  With that, we have no intention to sell our quality domains.

We have bought these domains for a reason.  We thought they were undervalued at the time.  We thought that we could build a business on the back of each one.  We believed in their industry or category long term growth.  We still hold these beliefs.

Whether it be Basketball.org, REITs.com, Lahaina.com, DrinkRecipes.com, or one of our many others, we have a solid business plan for each of these.  I intend to follow through with these plans in time.

The biggest problem I have is not what to do with these domains or how to value them.  The problem is that I have spread our team to thin with multiple projects.  We realized this at the end of 2008 and halted plans for a few of these domains.  It is unfortunate to see them sit there without fresh daily content, but the reality is that we must focus on the best opportunities now in order to create capital to drive the other opportunities later.

Lahaina.com is several months away from being a fairly smooth operation.  Once we get there, we have to evaluate what to invest time and money in next.

The point is, I am in no way worried about the prospects for our assets or businesses.  The potential is still massive for us and for you.  Opportunity is out there.  The best part about it all, however, is that as the Internet grows, there are offshoots of other opportunities as well.  Do not limit yourself to domains…the real-time web has only begun to take shape.
