How to Track the Swine Flu
First of all, I suggest everyone pay attention to what is going on with this swine flu. I am not a doctor, but every “expert” I speak to or hear from basically confirms the same thing: we know nothing of what could happen.
There are two simple methods I suggest using for tracking the swine flu.
- Google Flu Trends- Looking at the relevant states (ie. New Mexico), we can begin to see the uptick in flu activity. I am going to watch this daily.
- Google Hot Trends- These are the search terms that have shown the largest increase in usage over a short period of time (a few hours). You will be able to track areas on here. For instance, as I write this, “swine flu seattle”, “swine flu washington”, and “swine flu king county” are all up in the top trends. A quick check on the news there shows 6 potential cases and officials raising public awareness.
