How To
One thing I love about my readers is that most are not the most web-savvy of visitors. Blogging can either be about initiating discussion, asking questions, providing news, or providing educational information that Internet surfers are always subconsciously search for. I love to take part in all forms of blogging, and this allows me to educate others, a passion of mine as I believe education a longer term solution to many of the worlds problems. Let me start by explaining how to track GreenTaxi.
The easiest way to stay up to date with Green Taxi is to subscribe to an RSS feed of some sort. An RSS feed, simply put, is a way of updating you that there is a new article, or “blog”, posted on the GreenTaxi.com website. It can even provide you the header or whole article in a non-greentaxi format if you choose (Feedburner is the best for this). This image to the right is the universal image for an RSS feed.
To subscribe to an RSS feed, you need to choose a way to read the feeds. Down the right side of GreenTaxi, there are a list of feed readers. If you want to use one of those readers, you can select them and sign up and greentaxi will be included in your feeds on that site. The most important thing to do that I suggest, is to set that reader site as your home page in Internet Explorer (in the Tools->Internet Options menu).
Let me give you a step-by-step example.
- First of all, as a personal preference, I use feedburner feeds for most of my feeds (this is a quite popular service, I suggest you do as well). You do not have to do anything for this, I am just explaining what feeds I use (you can also use an XML feed).
- As an RSS reader, I use my Google homepage. So, go to http://www.google.com/ig, which is your personal Google page (sign up for an account if you do not have one).
- Set this page as your default home page (Internet Explorer -> Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Select the “Use Current” button under Home Page).
- Next, select the “Add Stuff” link in the top right of that google homepage.
- On the left side of the next page, press the “Add RSS feed” button. In this pop-up box, paste http://feeds.feedburner.com/GreenTaxi and press Add.
- Go back to your Google homepage and there should be an RSS feed of GreenTaxi on the front page.
- You can then add feeds to other blogs through that same Add Stuff->Add RSS feed process.
