As reported on Basketball.org and elsewhere, the Phoenix Suns will be installing Solar panels on the roof of the parking garage to help offset the power used in the gym during games.
“In an environmentally-friendly maneuver, Steve Nash convinced the Phoenix Suns to use Solar power to help keep the lights on in the US Airways Center.
According to the Arizona Republic, over 1,100 panels placed on the roof of the parking garage will help offset the power for what would amount to over 26 home games each season. The system will be operational next year and will offset more than 440,000 pounds of CO2 each year.
The installation will cost the team about $1.5 million up front and the team will earn an annual rebate of between $60,000 to $85,000 from Arizona Public Service Co. via the utility’s renewable-energy incentive program.
