I feel there is a lack of understanding of exactly how big China’s markets are these days. This is important for people to understand. Let’s look at a quick comparison of the volumes traded yesterday.
Yesterday’s Volumes
Chinese Markets:
- Shanghai A-shares: $43.3bn
- Shenzhen A-shares: $19.2bn
Total Main Market China Volume: $62.5bn
Global Markets:
- NYSE: $21.3bn
- NASDAQ: $13.5bn
- UK LSE: $6.9bn
- FR Euronext: $4.6bn
- IT Borsa It: $3.0bn
- GE Xetra: $5.1bn
- SP Madrid: $3.4bn
Large Western Market Volume: $57.8bn
Kind of opens your eyes a bit, doesn’t it?

I should point out that this is exchange traded value. The US has all of these off-market systesms and smaller exchanges that it makes it more difficult to calculate total value traded from my understanding. I’m no expert on the US, so some clarity on total value traded from anyone would be helpful.
