Here’s an interesting article on why to buy .cn domains when doing business in China. It can still be very questionable for a foreigner to own domains there, so I would suggest much caution when doing so. I’ve heard of many domains that have been reclaimed by the Chinese government recently due to some sort of trademark or government infringement. I think these domains usually had to do with politics or education or other communist type themes.
Be careful of what you buy, but .cn is here to stay in China.

There’s always been an argument about what’s best for the Chinese market: .cn or .com. Most agree .cn is great due to national pride and such, but in the end .com will get more type-ins. Thanks for posting this
.
Conor: I agree that .com’s will get more type-in’s for now, however if IDN’s do end up becoming prominent in China, we could see a shift to and IDN.IDN or IDN.cn for type-ins coming out of China.
IDNs are a whole different story. The *insane* growth I have seen in the last year really made me get my act together and pursue prime keywords. I didn’t have the opportunity to pick up any good Chinese IDN, but in my other languages: Russian, Arabic, Farsi, Japanese, some Hebrew, and Thai, things have just been very nice. Back in December 06 I almost lost hope. From what I’ve been seeing, there have been more Chinese IDN developments than any other language.
Conor: Yes, Japanese have been the best for us in terms of stability and interest, but starting to see growth in a few other languages. Chinese IDN’s on the Secondary market are still the best lottery ticket in my opinion. They’re a long term commitment and you could easily lose everything, but for the odds I find it worth it. They could be worth their weight in gold someday.
Awesome. At the top of your blog it says “Currently In Santa Monica,” is that where you live? I’m in the valley.
Ahh, Are you Neptune from IDNF? It’s Fka200
.
Conor:Yes, sir. Although my brother usually manages the IDNF portion of Neptune. At some point we need to throw an IDNfest in LA…
I was actually going to send you an e-mail regarding one of your IDNs. There’s enough members in LA to hold some mini-IDN get together
. It would be interesting… sitting and talking about our xn-- domains.
Conor: Please do let us know…we always love to talk up our book
