AT&T fails the iPhone

I love my new iPhone. I messed around with it so much that Katie got one two weeks after me. The media functionality on it is fantastic.
But AT&T is a horrible network. So bad that Katie (haven’t decided what to do with mine yet) is going to have to return the phone and find something else on another network.
AT&T drops calls left and right. You’ll be talking to someone for 20 seconds, walk across the hallway and lose them.
AT&T has horrible coverage for even just basic phone services. While it says I have several bars in my apartment, people call and cannot hear me talking. It does not work in half of my office either.
The other morning I caught Katie walking up the alley in her bathrobe just to try to get reception. This is 2009; that a network drives people to the alleys during Winter to find reception is unacceptable.
The AT&T 3G network is spotty at best. It does work in most general areas, however as soon as I step out into a remote region it is gone. It says I am on the Edge network when 3G dissappears, but it seems like I am on a 1200 baud modem.
How the powers that be could pair a fantastic media revolution that is the iPhone with the nightmare that is the AT&T network, I do not understand. I sure hope the rumors that Apple will expand and make a Verizon compatible iPhone in 2010 come true.
Now the question remains, do I go back to T-Mobile and try out the new Blackberry Bold 9800 (or whatever that new one is), or do I venture on and take the risk on a Droid?
I saw the new Blackberry Bold at a party this weekend and it was pretty solid. Not an iPhone, but a very good Blackberry (which means I can actually manage and type emails efficiently).
But what about the Droid? The only review I’ve heard so far is that it is heavier than the iPhone. What else?

Good article comparing the smartphones. Comments are good as well.
A certain Weg is a fan of the Droid.
m.kartme.com also works on the Droid, so you can take notes and travel guides with you
You can get the ‘Kings Button’ iPhone 3G for £1,636,000 (roughly $2.5 million USD). If you’re more on the modest side, you can thankfully still walk into any AT&T, Walmart or Best Buy location and pick one up for considerably less.
