Bad Domain Names
My brother, Michael, points out a follow through on a previous discussion we have had. The New York Times put out a blog on how silly domain names are not so silly any more.
“These days, startups take the lazy way out: they choose goofy-sounding nonsense words. They think they’re being clever by being unclever. ”
I made this point a few weeks back regarding a sports tickets site, Yoonew, and I still stand by my stance that making up names like this is a bad idea longer term. Yes, if you can create such an amazing product that the company name/domain becomes a verb in the dictionary (Google), then you will win in the long run. Otherwise, you are just creating a name that I am even less likely to remember as I get confused with the other hundreds of bad names.
Buy a generic name for crying out loud. Every smart domainer says to do so and I have yet to see anyone advise otherwise.
